We’re celebrating International Women’s Week with fascinating and thought-provoking talks about Manchester women in history. After the collapse of the cotton industry in the 1920s, Manchester sought to generate new economic activity by developing and marketing the city as a quality shopping destination.Revitalised shops and department stores used decorations and special events to promote shopping as the new leisure activity.
